AMERICAN SANDWICHES.
These are capital for picnics or suppers, and _ are very popular in America. .Required: Some French rolls, a gill of clotted cream (whipped would do—but not so good), golden syrup, butter, a few almonds: Put the almonds in a small pan, cover them with water, and boil them lor a few minutes until they will shp & easily out, .of their skins. . Brown hem carefully in the oven and then chop them coarsely. Cut the rolls into thin shces and trim off the crusts. Spread half the slices first with syrup, then with a layer of cream and chopped almonds. Spread the remaining slices with butter. Lay a buttered slice on a creamed slice, arrange them on a lace paper, and serve.
