HALF CENTURY AT ONE PIT.
For over half a century a two-man clay pit has been worked at Shelf, near Halifax, England, by Mr. Rufus Barraclough, a 72-year-old farmer,, and one assistant. The pit is on a field in Mr. Barraclough's land, and the .clay is sent to the Castleford potteries to be used for potters' troughs. The _ digging, roofing, truck-loading and repairs have all been carried out by this aged _ farmer-pitman, who is now helped by his son.
