MORE ACTIVE CONDITIONS.

Active trading conditions with an upward trend in prices were marked features of tho week on the Auckland Stock Exchange. Banks led the forward move, but toward the close buyers reasserted themselves in industrials, several of which, particularly Australian issues, made considerable headway.

The bulk of the transactions in banks was done in Unions, which eitrly in tho week were turned over at £7 14s and £7 15s, Subsequently they had sale afc £7 10s, and following tho lower dividend announcement were released at £7 6s, with a further easing in quotations afc the close. Commercials of Australia also»fell back' with transactions afc 14s lid, 14s 5d and 14s 6d. Other issues were firm. In insurance tho price of New Zealands advanced 3d to £2 2s, at which level several parcels changed hands. South British, after steady dealing afc 51s 6d, were easier afc 51s 3d at the close. Half-a-dozen transactions confirmed a keener interest in New Zealand Breweries, which after a mid-week recession to 34s 9d advanced again to 35s 4d, In general investments offers for Australian Glass wero lifted from 20s 6d to 23s 6d, attracting selling quotations of 25s 6d. British Tobaccos also improved and were done Is firmer at 25s 6d. The firmer price of £35 5s was paid for Colonial Sugars, which later eased to £35.

'A substantial volume of business in tho mining group included sales of Waihis at 15s 6cl and 15s 7d and Waihi Junction at 3s and 3s After weakening to 2s 8d King Solomons closed firmer with business at 2s lOcl, 13 parcels changing hands within that range.

SYDNEY SHEEP SALES. PRICES FOR STUD -MERINOS. I SYDNEY, July 10. The stud sheep sales have closed. The six selling companies sold 2218' Merinos for £39,141. The average price was thus more than £l7. Last.year 2592 were sold at an average price of £l2. The highest price paid this year was 525 guineas, compared with 340 guineas last year. MELBOURNE PRODUCE. MELBOURNE, July 10. The following are to-day's quotations on the Melbourne produce markets:— Wheat, 2s 5d to 2s 6d; flour, £6 15s; bran, £3 15s; pollard, £4 ss; oats, 2s 4d to. 2s sd; barley, English, 2s 7d to 2s 8d; maize, 4s to 4s 2d.
