STOCKS AND SHARES.

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. MARKET FAIRLY STEADY. Trading on the Auckland Stock Exchange eased slightly yesterday, when fairly steady conditions prevailed throughout the market. Government loans remained firmly- held in spite of increased support for per cent. War Bonds, 1938 and 1939, offers for which wore raisod ss. The liighor interest-bearing local body debentures also commanded •steady attention -and dealing took place in two per cent, issues. ~

Banks were' a little 'stronger, with the exception of Unions, which were available unsupported at the early call at £7 ss. Subsequently a buyer came forward at £6. This was later advanced to £6 7s 6d, receiving ' a selling quotation of £7 2s 6d. A rise of Id was- rogisteced by Commercials of Australia in a transaction afc 14s 6d, at which level more were obtainable. Two parcels of New Zealand Insurance changed hands unaltered at 42s without any subsequent advance in quotations. South British gave way 3d and were secured afc 51s 3d. Offers for more closed 6d easier than the previous day at 5Qs 9d. In loan and agency Dalgelys, which were sought afc £6 2s 6d, were available at £6 15s; , Inquiry for GoldsbroughMorts 'was a little firmer. "Offers for Loan and • Mcrcantilfcs, for .which there hod been pteady inquiry at £47, were lowered to £45 without attracting sellers.

Movements »in other sections were slight. An advance of 4d was made by New Zealand Breweries, which sold at ,35s 4d< Industrial investments were steady. Colonial Sugars had sale at the current price of £35, further supplies being available at that figure. ' In the mining group King Solomons inadp higher prices, being dealt in »d bettor at 2s 9d and again twice at 2s lOd, which was offered for more. Waihis sold at 15s 6d and Waihi Junctions were done at the unchanged price of 3s O^d. CLOSING QUOTATIONS.
