REBELLION IN BURMA.

STILL MUCH UNREST. ESCAPE OF PRISONERS. British Wireless. RUGBY. June 35. The Secretary of State for India, Mr. Wedgwood Bonn, has circulated in the Houso of Commons a statement covering events in Burma in tho last week. This shows that in tho Tharrawaddy and Insein districts robberies have been less

numerous. In Ilenzada the situation has been difficult, owing to tho low numerical strength of tho military police, but troops would arrive there shortly. Iu the J'rome district the polico and troops had had several successes against the rebels and tho situation had improved. Thayetmyq, tho original rebel area, is reported to bo settling down, but dacoits had been active in ihe north district and there were signs of disaffection in the neighbouring districts of Minbu and Bag we. In tho Pegu district more than 30 prisoners broke out of tho Wyaungelbin sub-prison. They captured 15 polico carbines and made for tho forests to the west. Attacks on Indians and Chineso still continue in several districts of Jjowor Burma, but tho situation is gradually improving. A large number of Indian immigrants left Rangoon during tho last fortnight. Tho economic situation, shows no marked change. Cultivation is being started slowly. Several districts roport that relief works will probably be required in August oj- September, after the ploughing is finished.
