WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

Bombay.—A social afternoon was .held by the recently formed instituto and an enjoyable musical programme given. Glen Afton-Pukemiro.—A lecture upon the League of Mothers was given by the Rev. M. C. Gibb to the Glen AftonPukemiro Institute and several new members were enrolled for the League union. A splendid display of basket work from the Blind Institute attracted many buyers. Supper was served by the institute members. Hobsonville. —It was decided to help the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary by making up a parcel of sewing for distribution by them. A social afternoon followed the business of the meeting. Oratia. —At a meeting held to form a Women's Institute at Oratia an address was given by Miss Lewis upon the aims and work of The following committee was appointed:—President, Mrs. Potter; secretary, Miss Davidson; treasurer, Miss Theet; Mrs. Marryatt, Mrs. M. Sunde and Mrs. Speedy, committee. Pukekohe. —An address upon "Organisation " was given by Miss V. Ziman at a meeting of the institute. Titirangi.—At a meeting of the institute Miss Frazer's talk on uses of a medicine chest was much appreciated, and she also illustrated how to apply a tourniquent in cases of bleeding. Mrs. Carr-Smith, of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary, showed garments made by the society out of discarded clothing, for distribution among the poor. In response to an appeal for help members took home cut out material to make up. Te Atatu.—A lesson in making string soles for shoes and slippers was given, by Mrs. Allen at a meeting of the Te Atatu Women's Institute. Mrs. 0. Shale reported upon the provincial meeting of the federated institutes. Mesdames Brokenshire, Chadwick and Walters were hostesses.

Te Poi.—At a meeting of the Te Foi Institute a points competition of something new made from something old was won hy Mrs. Woolnough, with Mrs. Cockerton and Mrs. Schuler tieing for second place. Mrs. Oliver gave a reading upon " India." Hostesses were Mesdames Saunders, Sleeman and Madsen. Tuakau.—Mrs. Tate, of Greenhithe, gave an excellent address on elocution, speech-making, and dramatic work, with appropriate recitals at ft recent meeting. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Mesdames McCready, M. G. Oit and Morrow.

Turua,.—An interesting demonstration of bead-work, posy-making, etc., was given by Mrs. C. Hay ward, president of the Waitukuru Institute, at a meeting of the Turua Institute. Mrs. A. Peat and Mrs. C. Dall were hostesses.

Waerenga.—A lesson in moccasin making was given by Miss Gardener at a meeting of the institute and large bundles of now and second-hand clothing received for sending to the Rev. Jasper Calder. Waitoa.—Demonstrations of smocking, hemstitching and applique work were given hy Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Mac Lean, Miss Hunger and Mrs. Burgess at a meeting of the institute, and several pieces of very old and very beautiful work were on exlr'bition.

Whakatane.—A reading given by Mrs. Hogg on the first Governor of New Zealand—Captain Hobson —and a demonstration on lampshade-making by Mrs. Johnson were found both interesting and instructive at a recent meeting and were much appreciated. . Various competitions wero hold.
