Sirs. Shirley and Miss Helen Shirley, of Cambridge, Waikato, sailed by the Niagara yesterday, en route to Sydney and England.

Mrs. G. Tancred left by the Niagara for Sydney where she will be the guest of her son, Lieutenant G. Tancred, of Mount Street, Coogee.

Miss Sheila East, who visited Auckland ns the guest of Mrs. E. A. East, of Armadale, Road, Remuera, and later went to Hamilton, has returned to her home in New Plymouth.

Mrs. B. E. Hindman ' (Hamilton) and her sister, Mrs. J. Barlow (Te Aroha), are touring for pleasure and health combined, writes our London correspondent. They will see all they possibly can of the British Isles, tho Channel Islands and France, and they hope to bo back in New Zealand by the end of November.

The Holy Trinity -Social Club held an evening in the parish hall, Otahuhu, at which a large number of members and friends met and enjoyed a programme of dancing and a 500 tournament. Music was provided by Misses Moffat, Hill and Webber and Messrs. J. and G. Webber, and Mr. E. Pearse was in charge of the card arrangements. The successful players were Mrs. Woods 1, and Mrs. Day 2.

A well-attended concert was given in the Waimauku Coronation ITall by a concert party from the Maori Methodist Mission. Interesting features of the programme were poi dances, hakas, and a representation of the coming of the Maoris to New Zealand- Sister Nicholls was with the concert party, which paid a few days' visit to Rewiti as the guests of Mrs. J. Babbington. A concert was also given in the Woodhill Public Hall.

A farewell dance interspersed with vocal and other items was given for Mr. and Mrs. L. Penham and Mr. and Mrs. F. Denham by the residents of Orini and district. Danco music was supplied by Messrs. Smith, Austin and Warin. The Orini Girls' Club provided a playette, and musical items were rendered by Miss Cochrane and Messrs. R. Preest and J. Mullagan. Mr. Bently, representing the settlers of the district, made a presentation of a handsome dinner set to each family.

A meeting of the Kumeu branch of the W.C.T.U. was held in the Public Hall last week, when the vice-president, Mrs. It. Martin, presided over a good attendance of members. An interesting paper was read by Miss E. Farrand, dealing with the history and usefulness of the White Ribbon, the magazine of the union. A report was also given by Miss Barnes, White Ribbon secretary. At. the close of the business for the month tea was served.

A very successful bring and buy afternoon, organised by the ladies' committee of St. Martin's Memorial Church, Wnimauku, was held in the Coronation Hall this week. riatioforle solos were contributed by Mrs. 1. Levet and Miss 1,. Owen, and a vocal solo by Miss Edith ('otighlnn was much appreciated, as were recitations by Miss Nita Stewart and Miss Dorn'a Brnssington. A competition was held, the winner being Miss Colleen Jackson, of Rewiti.

Miss Edna Dixon (Auckland) travelled by the Port Alma, via Panama and Holland, to England, writes our London correspondent on May 15. In Holland she spent an enjoyable week sightseeing, and is now on a round of visits to friends and relatives in the Mother Country, staying for the moment at Erdington, Birmingham. At the end of tho month she is going for a camping trip to Wales and then she. will go again to the Continent. Miss Dixon expects to return to New Zealand, via Suez, leaving some tune in September.

A 'most enjoyable bridge afternoon was given by Mrs. Oswald, the president of the Auckland Croquet Association, at her home to mark the close of the croquet season. The guests were the Auckland executive, past presidents, and champions. The guests were received ny Mrs. Oswald, who wore a frock of floral panne. Miss Brown, assistant-secretary, also helped her in the entertaining of her guests. The rooms were arranged with hanging baskets of fern and pink carnations. The prize-winners were: Mrs Cutforth, Mrs. Garrard and Mrs. Schnauer. Among those present were: — Mesdames Keesine (hon. secretary, Auckland Croquet Club), Hamilton, Finch, Badeley, Cutforth, McGill, White, Morton, Thompson, J. W. The annual meeting of tho New Zealand Women's Association took place at Farmer's, Sydney, when the annual report was read by Mrs. L. MacDonakl, also the balance-sheet, which showed a credit, and stated that £196 had been sent to the Lord Mayor's Fund for New Zealand Relief .during the past few months. Mrs. Stanley Hempton was re-elected president, and the patronesses for the .year chosen were Lady Julius, Lady Braddon, and Mrs. L. G. Schmitt. Mrs. Mac Donald was re-elected hon. secretary, and Miss J. Turnbull, lion treasurer. A blight morning tea was arranged to greet tho New Zealand University footballers, and Mr. G. P. Stuck'ey, in extending a welcome to tho visitors, thanked Mrs. Hemingway (president of the women's committee) for arranging a dance, which was held at the Torii Cafe.
