RESERVE AT NORTHCOTE.

RECLAIMING ONEPOTO BASIN. COUNCIL " IN THE DARK." Surprise that' the authority' granted to the Auckland' Harbour Board to reclaim land in the Onepoto Basin, Shoal Bay, was conditional upon the work being completed by December was expressed by the Mayor of Northcote, Mr. R; Martin, at a meeting of tho Borough Council last evening. Tho authority given to the Harbour Board has been delegated to the council.

Mr. Martin said ho was completely " in the dark " about tho matter. The old council, which had hastily drawn up the scheme without detailed consideration, had agreed to undertake (he work at an indefinite date on the understanding, that it would' entail only a, minimum cost to the borough. Tho work of reclaiming the basin and converting it into a sports ground was to have been carried out under tho No. 5 scheme. The council resolved to defer the matter until definite information was received from the Harbour Board or tho Marino Department. The North Shore Boroughs (Auckland) Water Board advised that it' would not impose levies this year owing to its satisfactory financial -position.. - ..-The • quantities of water consumed by the different boroughs last year was as follows: Devonport, 219,343,511 gallons; Birkenhead, 40,851,234 gallons; Northcote, 36,844,250 gallons.
