ILLNESS AT BROOME.
WHOLE DISTRICT AFFECTED. FIVE PERSONS DEAD. PERTH. June 15. One-fifth of the white population, including the district medical officer, at Broome and the surrounding districts, is laid up with a severe illness, believed to be pneumonic influenza. In some cases whole families are in bed. Five deaths have occurred. Among the blacks 40 per cent, are suffering. At the Beagle Bay mission station, 230 of the inhabitants are ill, including the fathers and sisters of the convent.
