TEMPERANCE UNION.
A tribute to the work of (lie laic Mrs. H. Y. Dewar, who was one of (he foundation members of the union when it was organised in 1885 by Mrs. Mary Clement Leavitt, W.C.T.U. World's Missionary, of America, was paid by Mrs. John Cook at a meeting of the Auckland W.C.T.U. Mrs. Dewar was the first treasurer and for many years before her retirement, owing to increasing years, she held the office of president. The members stood in silence, as a mark of respect to her memory. The following resolution was passed by the meeting:—" That this meeting of tho Auckland W.C.T.U. heartily approve and will support the Bible in Schools Enabling Bill and would ask the Government to pass tho needful legislation to entitle the children of tho country to have religious exercises during school hours, a movement which plebiscite facts prove is supported by 80 per cent, of the parents. Miss Cook, who has recently returned from an extended tour through Great Britain, tho Continent and America, gave a most interesting talk on the various places visited.
