THEIR EXCELLENCIES' VISIT. INSPECTION OF PREMISES. GOOD EFFORTS • COMMENDED. An inspection 6f tlio premises of the Auckland City Mission was made yesl tcrday afternoon by the Governor-General, t Lord Bledisloe, and the Lady Blo'disloe. ! Dearing, of Auckland. The jumble shop was favourably comj merited upon by His Excellency, who said it permitted tho poor to make cheap purchases without tho necessity of accepting charity. From tho headquarters Their Excellencies went to tho mission workshops in Federal Street. They were conducted over tho building by Mr. W. Fort, foreman of the Men's Guild, and » examined tho plant. At tho men's shelter Their Excellencies wero met by Mrs. E. A, Kidd and Mr. W. K. Howitt, who represented tho Belief Committee of tho Auckland Hospital ' Board in the absence of the chairman of the board, Mr. W. Wallace. Tho dining hall and kitchen were inspected by Their Excellencies, who commented upon 1 the excellent facilities provided for tho | men. Tho party then viewed the sleepI ing quarters. It waa explained to Their Excellencies that the shelter is now catering for more ' than 160 homeless men each night, although provision is availablo for 240 men. 1 Lord Bledisloe remarkod upon the degree of comfort provided and said liu could not help but bo greatly impressed with ' the wonderful work being dono by the | mission. | ANNIVERSARY OF MISSION. CHURCH SERVICE ARRANGED. The eleventh anniversary of tho Auckland City Mission will bo celebrated at the Epiphany Church, Newton, to-mor-row evening. A special programme of music has been arranged and tho Rev. Jasper Gaidar, city missioner, will giyo a short address. Evangelistic hymns will be sung from a newly-published mission hymn-book. Tho outside of tho church i will bo illuminated by a "fiery cross," i which will remain permanently .on. tho building and will bo lighted whenever there is a call to prayer.
