CHURCH DISPUTE.
ST. AIDAN'S, BIRMINGHAM. DECISION OF ARCHBISHOP. (Received Juno 2. 9.45 p.m.) LONDON. June 2. The Primate, Dr. Cosmo Lang, has decided to admit the Rev. G. D. Simrnonds to the incumbency of St. Aidan's ' Church,/ Birmingham, in spite of the protests of the Bishop of Birmingham, Dr. E. W. Barnes, and his refusal to submit the matter to the Court. The Archbishop states that he has exnmined Mr. Simmouds and lias found that he holds the faith of the Church of England.
The Bishop of Birmingham, when informed in December, 1929, that -the living of St. Aidan's Church, Small Health, had been offered to the Rev. G. I). Simmonds, then an assistant curate at Tyne Dock, wrote to Mr. Simmonds regarding existing practices in ritual lit, the church, which he regarded as unauthorised and said such services must cease, and asked for an undeitaking from the new incumbent, which Mr. fcininionds refused to give. The bishop refused to induct him to the living and the patrons of the living obtained an order in the High Court that Dr. Barnes—who did not appear as defendant—should admit and licence Mr. fcii/imouds.
