STATE ADVANCES.
THE NEW SUPERINTENDENT. MR. E. O. HALES APPOINTED. [nv TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Monday. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, has announced the appointment of Mr. E. 0. Hales to succeed Mr. W. Waddel, whoso retirement at his own request from tho position of superintendent of Stale Advances was previously notified and who will cease active duty at the end of the presont month. Mr. llales at present holds the position of assistant-Public Trustee, a position which lie has occupied since 1921. In this position Mr. Hales has had a wide experience in financial matters and has acted as a member of (he State Adavnces Board and (he boards of other lending departments of State. Mr. Hales is a son of (lie late Mr. W. 11. Hales, a former cngineer-in-rliief of the Public Works Department. Ho was educated at Wellington College and joined (lie head office of (lie Public Trust Office, as a cadet in 1894. Since then he has passed through all branches of the office. He has been closely identified with sport of various kinds, iiaving represented the Wellington Province both as a cricketer and as a Rugby footballer. For some years lie was chairman of the Wellington Rugby Union and was a member of the committee of the New Zealand Ilugby Union. .
