FAVOURITES FARE BADLY

Delightfully fine weather, with a tang of early winter in the air, favoured the Franklin- Pacing Club's meeting at Pnkekohe on Saturday and thoro was a good r.ttendnnce. Tho course was slightly soft nftcr tlie rain that had fallen through <i lC week, but the racing proved highly interesting.

Favourites fared badly and the only one to win was Gay Lap. No fewer than three ( ,f the winners, namely Rangikaha, Hampton Park and First Lap, returned donblefigure dividends and altogether the results ■tvero very unfavourable to investors. Tho chief event, the Pukekohe Cup, was nnncxed by Manawhenua after an exciting finish with Antique, and the open sprint,' the Harrisville Flying Handicap, was won by Hampton Park. After the cup contest, the cabinet of cutlery accorn- * panving the stake was presented to 11. Kama, owner-trainer of Manawhenua, by the club's president, Mr. Dynes Fulton.
