WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

MONTHLY MEETINGS. Henderson.—Visitors from New Lynn ajid Glen Eden were present at a meeting of the Henderson Institute. Mrs. Irwin, president of the Auckland Federation of Women's Institutes, gave a most interesting and instructive lecture on the life of Napoleon. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The monthly flower competition, which on this occasion was of chfysanthemums, was judged by visitors from neighbouring institutes, and points were awarded to': Mrs. Kipplewhite, 1; Mrs. Ashton, 2; Mrs. G. Dustin, 3. Tea was served by Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Mortlock.

Kaipara.—Hostesses at a meeting of the Kaipara Flats Institute were Mrs. C. Gubb and Mrs. Hudson. An interesting talk • upon the drama and on elocution was given by Mrs. Tat-e, of Greenhithe. Te Hoe.—A demonstration of glove-mak-jng was given by Miss Waterhouse at a meeting of the Te Hoe Institute. The occasion marked the first anniversary of the institute and a hand-painted birthday book was presented by Mrs. C. A. L. Thompson. Musical items, recitations and social chat concluded the afternoon. Woodhill.—Mrs. Tait, a member of the Greenhithe Institute, gave an interesting lecture on the art of elocution to members of the Woodhill Institute. Mrs. Tait also gave some recitations. How to make moccasins was shown by Mrs. S. Phillips, and useful recipes were circulated. Hostesses were Mi's. :Dean and Miss M. Phillips.

Wellsford.—A travel talk on Siberia and Japan was given to the Wellsford Institute by Mrs. Irwin, the president of the Auckland Federation of Institutes. It.was decided to join the Rodney group, provided the meetings could still be held on a sale day., Mrs. Irwin was the recipient of a small present from the institute. Hostesses were Mesdames Newton, S. Smith, Hare and Hutchison.
