PROTECTION OF ANIMALS.
PROPOSED HOME FOR STRAYS. To augment the funds being by the Auckland branch, of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to establish a home for strays, a niost successful bridge party was given by the ladies' bridge committee in the Tudor reception rooms yesterday. Mrs. Charles Nathan, a member of the executive, thanked the guests for attending the function, and briefly explained the nature of the work carried out by the society. " We feel thai if we had a place of our own for strays we could be the means of saving healthy and valuable animals from destruction," Mrs. Nathan said.. She extended an invitation to those present who were interested to visit the hospital at Titirangi, where sick and injured animals are cared for. Tho # members of the bridge committee were: Mrs. Milburn, Miss M. Shroff, Mrs. A. Farmer, Mrs. Clianey, Mrs. Nicholson and Mrs. Melville. The hostesses for each table were: Lady Stringer, Lady Leys, Lady Herdman, Mrs. Charles Nathan, Mrs. Mayhill, Mrs. Fraser Smith, Mrs. Jeffrey, Mrs. Thwaites, Mrs. Jarman, Mrs. Frost, Mrs. McManemin, Mrs. W.
