FIRE AT TAMAKI.
EMPTY HOUSE GUTTED. Fire completely destroyed a nineroomcd single-storey wooden house at tlie corner of Valo Road and Massey Road, Tanuiki, last evening. The house was unoccupied at the lime of the fire, and the alarm was given by a passer-by, who noticed smoke issuing from the building. Although the Tamaki and Remuera fire brigades were quickly on the scene it was found impossible to suppress the outbreak—tho cause of which is not known—heforo considerable damage had been done. Until quite recently the house was the residence of Mr. W. Ward Baker. It has since changed hands two or three times, however, and the name of the present owner and details of insurances were not. available last evening.
