OPENING OF BATHS
TRAINING COLLEGE EVENT. CEREMONY THIS AFTERNOON. The now swimming baths at the Auckland Training College will be opened this afternoon by the Minister of Education, the Hon. It. Atmore. The principal, Mr. D. M. Rae, will preside. The baths, which are 75ft. long and 30l"t. wide, were constructed at a cost of £I2OO. By means of fairs, concerts and subscriptions, contributions of £l5O each were mado toward this amount by the Normal School Parents' Association and tho Epsom School Committee. The remainder of the cost has been met bv tho Auckland Education Board—which has consistently supported the college authorities in their efforts over a long period to secure the baths—and the Education Department. Mr. K. C. Reid, physical training instructor at the college, will be in charge of tho baths. He will be assisted by students who are qualified in swimming. The baths will be available to the pupils of the Normal and Epsom Schools, which are within easy distance. Besides Mr. Atmore and Mr. Rae, tho speakers will include the Minister of Health, tho Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, Mr. A. Burns, chairman of the Education Board, and representatives of the Normal School Parents' Association and the Epsom School Committee. Professor H. W. Segar, member of tho college advisory council, and Mr. E. H. Potter will also bo present.
