PAY FOR TUNNELLERS.
INCREASE AT TAWA FLAT. DECISION OF GOVERNMENT. [nv TELEGRAPH. — I'E.ESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Saturday. The decision of the Government to increase the ra'es of pay of the tunncllers engaged on the Tawa Flat railway deviation works, to enable the men to earn from 18s 6d to 21s a day, instead of 16s, as previously decided, was an- \ nouncccl to-day l>y the Minister of Public Works, Hon. W. B. Taverijer. The higher rate of 21s is for work done in advance of headings. Thso decision has been conveyed to the union, and the Government is awaiting its decision.
