SHIPPING SERVICES.
TEMPORARY ALTERATIONS. OVERHAULS AND SURVEYS. In order to relieve vessels, for their periodical overhaul and survey, there are to be temporary alterations in the transpacific and intercolonial passenger and mail services. The Royal Mai! liner Monowai, which is due at Wellington from San Francisco this morning, is to withdraw from tho service when she arrives at Sydney next Saturday. She will be replaced by the Maunganui, which is now on the intercolonial run, but will 'be transferred to the San Francisco service and . will leave Sydney for San Francisco, via-Wellington and Island ports, on May 14. The Marama, now under overhaul and survey at Wellington 1 , will be recommissioned to relieve the Maunganui in the intercolonial service, and will leave Wellington for Sydney on May 22. The Monowai will make a trip from Sydpey to Auckland, and later she will be transferred to the Vancouver run in place of the Aorangi, which will be withdrawn for overhaul and survey when she reaches Sydney on Miy , 23. The Aorangi will be laid up until July 23, when she will resume again in the service and the Monowai will be withdrawn for overhaul. The Monowai is due at Auckland from Sydney on June 1. It will be her first visit tq Auckland. She was formerly the P. and 0. liner Razmak and was purchased by the Union Company to replace the Royal Mail liner Tahiti, which was lost at sea. Tha Monowai is the third largest passenger vessel in the Union Company's fleet. The two .larger vessels are the Aorangi, 17,491 tons, and the Niagara, 13,415 tons. The Makura ia. next in size below the Monowai, and ifl 8075 tons.
