GAMBLING AT DOG TRIALS.
Sir, —About a year ago I appealed to lovers of clean sport to protest against gambling at dog trials, and I wish to thank all who have co-operated with me. I am glad to lie able to say that there arc more dog trial grounds free from gambling tl.an a year ago, but some trial grounds are no better than last season. To me these srern to be no more than gambling p aces where people go to lay bets and cillect the money when they win. It is not uncommon to see several in a ring, paying over when the results are made known, as well as men going around aski:ig people to make up sweeps. Are dog trials going to have " bookies" and need the police to sec things are in order? I hope the self-respect of the people alter ding dog trials will be above this, and that Sail trials in general will be carried on in the fine sporting spirit that exists at some of the trials now. But what puzzles me is why tho executive committee is so slow to reach tho distant places. It has stopped gambling at places where most of them attend, but I hope to see them reach every clog trial club that allows gambling, so that in the 1932 season there will not be any gambling anywhere. " Clean Sport.
