OBITUARY.

MRS. SARAH KEMP. The death occurred at her residence on Friday of Mrs. Sarah Ann Kemp, aged 67 years, wife of Mr. Richard Kemp, of Papakura. Mrs. Kemp, who was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gamble, was born at Dunedin. She was first married at New Plymouth to the late Mr. John Street and they lived at Waitara, but Mr. Street died 30 years ago. About 17 years later Mrs. SUeet married Mr. Richard Kemp. They settled at Paparata, where Mr. Kemp had a farm, but after about three years they moved to Papakura. Mrs. Kemp was a well-known member of the Methodist Church at Papakura. She is survived by her husband, three sons and five daughters. MISS HANNAH DUDLEY. A very devoted missionary, greatly useful in philanthropic and educational work among the young, passed away at her Auckland home on Saturday evening in the person of Miss Hannah Dudley, who was in her 69th year. She had lived in quiet seclusion for the last 11 years, but news of her death will awaken widespread regret. A day-school teacher in New South Wales until 1891. Miss Dudley went to India in that year to become second in charge of the Hyderabad School of the American Methodist Mission. After a short term there she returned to Australia, but when there enme a rapid and extensive incursion of Indians to Fiji and the consequent general fear that this might mean a menace to the intersts of the Fijians she volunteered for service there and became in 1897 a lone-handed pioneer of Christian influence among the Indian population. She founded a school, visited the Indian settlements and courageously won a welcome which led, in 1901, to the sending of the first lay missionary and a year later to the full establishment of the mission as an enterprise of the Methodist Church. An idea of the difficulty of Miss Dudley's brave enterprise is conveyed by the fact that when, after eight weeks in hospital suffering from an injured ankle, she went to resume her work the school had vanished and she had to begin all over again. Not then fully recovered from her injury, she was wheeled in a jinricksha when taking up again her visiting duties. Much of all this work was done at her own expense. In 1913 she left Fiji, becoming again a teacher in Melbourne and Sydney. But her enthusiasm for mission service outlived her strength for active employment in its more strenuous duties and she. continued this service in the bringing up of a number of Indian children , to whom it has become natural to speak of her as "mother." Some of these are in Auckland. A funeral service will be held this afternoon in the chapel of Trinity Methodist College, prior to the interment at Hillsborough. MRS. R. G. FINDLAY.
