AUCKLAND SUBURBS.
REFORM PARTY CANDIDATE. INVITATION TO SIR J. PARR. REPLY PROMISED IN WEEK. A petition hearing 500 names was presented to Sir James Parr on Saturday urging him to contest Auckland Suburbs seat in the interests of tho Reform Party at the next general election. A reply is to he given in a week. Sir James, who, with Lady Parr, was the guest of honour at a garden party held on Saturday afternoon in the grounds of the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. I'. Gardner at New Lynn, was member for the district prior to his appointment as High Commissioner in London. Mr. H. R. Marryatt, presideutUof the Auckland Suburbs executive of the lieform League, extended a hearty welcome back to Sir James and Lady Parr, referring to the many services Sir James had performed in the interests of the district. The petition, he said, had only been hurriedly prepared und represented but a fraction of Ilia total number of
names which could be secured. 'J he signatories were all heads of families und represented probably 2000 certain votes. Messrs. G. Lawson, M. Laing and W. It. T. Leighton also joined in the welcome. In reply, Sir James said ho had not anticipated the request but would give his answer in a week. Since his return from England he had been busy with private business affairs and had given little attention to politics. He was still as keen as ever to see. New Zealand well governed and anything he could do to further that end ho would do with all his power. The statement was received with applause.
