NOMINATIONS TO DATE.
FIRST STATUTORY ELECTION.
I LIVELY INTEREST EVINCED,
Eight nominations for the 10 scats on tho Auckland Transport Board had been received up to yesterday. According to tho terms of /ha Act, all nominations must ho in the hands of tho returning officer before noon next Wednesday. Candidates nominated are: —No. 1, the city constituency: Messrs. M. J. Coylc, J. A. C. Allum, T. Bloodworth and M. J. Bennett. No. 2 district: Messrs. W. H. Naglc, J. H. Langley and E. H. Potter. No. 3 district: Mr. W. G. Mulholland.
Tho Auckland Citizens' Committee yesterday decided to support the following candidates for tho Transport Board:— Messrs. J. A. C. Allum, G. Grey Campbell, M. J. Coyle, J.' Dempsey, L. A. Eady and G. R. Hutchinson. Messrs. Allum and Coyle are at present members of the board, Mr. Allum having been chairman since its formation, The other four candidates selected by the Citizens' Committee have all served on tho City Council, Mr. Hutchinson having been chairman of the Tramways Committee for some timo. It, is understood, that all the sitting members of tho board intend to seek reelection with tho exception of Mr. G. G Ashley, who is suffering from ill-health. A particularly keen contest is' expocted, as this will be the first statutory election of the board. The sitting members were all nominated by tho local bodies upon tho inception of the board over two years ago.
TAKAPUNA MAYORAL CHAIR.
MR. A. H. WILKIE'S DECISION
Mr. A. 11. Wilkic, of Takapuna, announced yesterday that ho will be a candidate for tho Mayoralty of tho borough. Mr. Wilkic is a member of the Takapuna Borough Council, being chairman of the Legal and Finance Committee. He has had 15 years' experience in municipal affairs.
HAMILTON CONTEST.
MR. FOW A CANDIDATE. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Friday. A representative deputation of Hamilton residents waited on Mr. J. R. Fow, Mayor of Hamilton, this afternoon and invited him to offer bis services again as Mayor. Mr. Fow has been a member of the Hamilton Borough Council for 23 years, and has completed 13 years' service as Mayor.
Dr. 11. Douglas said Mr. Fow had served the town faithfully and well and it was the desire of many ratepayers that lie should again stand.
in acceding to the request of the deputation, Mr. Fow strongly urged ratepayers will/ big interests in the town to offer their services as councillors. There was frequently too much apathy shown by people whose duty it was to assist. He thanked the deputation for its expression of confidence in him.
