VAN FALLS DOWN GULLY.

DRIVER KILLED INSTANTLY. VEHICLE SKIDS IN LOOSE METAL. [.FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday. A farmer of Horahora, Mr. Alfred William Head, aged about 54, was killed when the light motor-van he was driving plunged down a steep bank at the side of the llorahora-Maungatautari Road shortly after four o'clock-yesterday afternoon.

Mr. Head was returning home from Matamata with his wife, who was with him in the cab. His son and a 10-year-old boy were seated in the back. In turning a very sharp bend tho van skidded in loose metal and left tho road, Rilling a distance of about 80ft. to the bottom of the gully. Mr. Head was thrown out and killed instantly, but the other occupants escaped with severe bruises. The van was extensively damaged. Mr. Head leaves a wife, four sons and 0110 daughter.

An inquest was held to-day before Mr. H. Alan Bell and a jury. A finding of accidental death was returned, in accordance with tho medical and other evidence given. There was no evidence to show that the truck was other than in good mechanical order. The evidence was emphatic that the accident was due to tho vehicle skidding in somo loose gravel.
