ROWING SEASON.
FINAL INTER-CLUB RACES. The Easter holidays, as usual, have been quiet in local rowing circles, the members of the various clubs confining their attention to pleasure rowing. Very favourable water conditions prevailed, especially 011 Easter Monday, and several crews made long trips. The fouroars were in k most demand, although a number of scullers were afloat. The main item of interest in Dominion circles was the annual eight-oar race at Ihe university tournament in Dunedin. The contest drew three crews, Auckland University, Victoria College (Wellington) and "Canterbury University College, and produced Ihe best race of the series to date. The Victoria College crew won after a hard race, defeating Auckland by a canvas, while Canterbury, the winners last season, filled third place. The rapid approach of the .close of the season is marked by the programme next Saturday, when the two trophies under the control of the North Shore Club will be contested for the first time. The Alfred J. Powley Cup is a non-class fours in racing boats and should draw very strong crews. The Hislop Cup for novice oarsmen (those who have never been in a rcatta crew) will be rowed in practice boats. If the weather conditions are favourable, the North Shore course will bo used If conditions are unfavourable, (ho races will be held over the course from Orakci to the east of the tide deflector. , , The Mason fours inter-dub event and the handicap sculls for the Marshall Cup will be decided during the week-end. Ihe Waitemata Boating Club will also row the pair-oar trials on Saturday foi Messrs. Fearon's trophies.
