BALL AT MANUREWA.

A PICTURESQUE SCENE. LANTERNS AND FAIRY LIGHTS. DELIGHTFUL EVENING SPENT.' The glow from myriads of tiny lights and gay Chinese lanterns, which filtered through native trees and shone over beds of beautifully-scented flowers, trans ; formed the grounds of Manurewa House, the home of the Earl and Countess of Orford, into a scene from fairyland last evening, when a ball was given to a large number of friends. Erected on the tennis court at the side of the house was a large marquee, in which dancing took place. This was lit with standard lamps and decorated with graceful flax plants, while one end was converted into a lounge. For those who preferred bridge, tables were arranged in the drawing room, and supper was served in another marquee on the lawn, this having been decorated with a profusion of dahlias ranging in colours from crimson to pale pink and from deep orange to lighter shades of lemon and yellow. Mr. Ballantyne Burnnand's orchestra played delightful dance music.
