RELIEF WORKERS' STRIKE.

WELLINGTON PROTEST. TRAM TRAFFIC OBSTRUCTED. [bit TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Saturday. About 400 relief workers who are on " strike " wore addressed in the Trades llall yard this morning and urged to keep on strike, after which n procession was formed down the principal city streets with banners protesting against the new relief rales. The party proceeded to Lamblon Quay, where tram traffic was held up. The demonstrators refusing to move off the tram rails, the situation several times became tense, the tram cars proceeding at walking pure and pushing the demonstrators, who leaned against the buffers in an attempt to stop the trams. One car, after being held up for several hundred yards, gathered speed and charged into the of the procession, scattering banners and demonstrators to right and left. Tho demonstrators pulled off the trolley poles on one occasion, a scuffle ensuing between a traniwayman and a striker. Another tram was similarly affected in Cuba Street.

Returning outside the Trades Ilall, the procession stopped in the middle of the road singing " Red " songs and stopping Irani traffic. The demonstrators dispersed after a further demonstration had been arranged.
