BOMBAY DEVIATION.

ROUTE OPEN TO TRAFFIC.

EXTENSIVE IMPROVEMENTS.

SURFACE GENERALLY GOOD. Reconstruction work on the Bombay deviation, between the Bombay Hill and Pokcno, is now practically completed and the deviation was opened for traffic yesterday. The surfjice generally is in good condition, except for a stretch of about 200 yards at the, Fokcno end, where tho formation is still soft. The Auckland Automobilo Association signs warning motorists against using the deviation were removed yesterday, but the soft patches were flagged. It is expected that the soft places will improve under traffic. Since last summer extensive improvements have been carried out in tho alignment. Dangerous bends have been cut back and widened and visibility has been greatly improved. For the remainder of tho summer motorists will bo permitted to use tho clay surface during tin» weather and negotiations are in progress concerning the permanent surfacing of the road.
