TAUNTON NURSING HOME.

BRAVE EFFORT BY FIREMEN,

LONDON, March 18

Two firemen, finding it impossible to enter a room by a ladder, donned gas masks and fought their way through a blazing upstairs dormitory of Wilde Oak House, Taunton, a nursing home, and snatched four infants from their cots.

The firemen then collapsed with them outside. Three of the infants died and the fourth was burned, but may recover. The firemen were sent to hospital. Nurses in their night attire and boys from an adjacent school assisted in the rescue of the 29 other children. One nurse was injurod and the matron collapsed from shock.
