MR. w. S.' FURBY'S ESTATE,

VARIOUS INSTITUTIONS BENEFIT!

Bequests totalling £IOOO have been mac'lo to a number of institutions onder the will of Mr. W. 8. Furby, who died in Auckland on November 29. The Melvnesian Mission, the Church of England Orphanage, Papatoetoe, and tha Children's Home, Richmond Road, are fco receive £2OO each, and St. Mary's Home, Otehuhu, the Auckland Ladies' Benevolent Society, the Auckland City Mission and 'the Grand Lodge of Freemasons under the United Grand Lodge of En#, land, £IOO each. The public trustee has been appointed executor and trusts of the estate. Mr. Furby was one of New Zealand's most prominent telegraph officials, and when he retired from the service in l§-y. he was district telegraph engineer in Auckland. He was born in London and carati to New Zealand with his people in 1858. After service with the provincial and later the State telegraph department in Canterbury, Westland and borough, he was transferred to Auckland, where, in 18(32, be established the first, telephone exchange with 32 subscriber*.
