REGISTRATION OF FARMERS,

COMPULSORY SYSTEM SOUGHT.;.

A remit that the New Zealand Poultry Association make further representations to the Government in regard, to compulsory registration of poultry-keepers, and that every poultry-keeper selling eggs should pay an annual registration fee, to be based on a sliding scale, was carried at the annual conference of the association | yesterday.

A scheme proposed by' Mr. J. N. McLean on the lines of the remit was also approved. The scheme provided for an annual fee of 2s 6d for a poultrymah.. having under 100 fowls, and 2s 6d extra for each additional 100 birds. The revenue, less the cost of collection, would be handed over by the Government to a committee elected under special legislation, and would be used for the development of the industrv.

A suggestion that a levy of, say, a halfpenny a dozen eggs be made as a guarantee fund for the export of eggs was made 1 by Mr. McLean. Exports could then bo carried out independent of a guarantee by the Government. v ' -

The delegates were, the guests of the Auckland Poultry Keepers' Association fit a dinner last evening. The conference will conclude to-day, when the election,of officers will bo held.
