BOWLING.

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS.

TOURNAMENT CONCLUDED.

HENDERSON WINS THE FINAL.

Tlio_Auckland Bowling Centre's champion of champions' tournament was concluded on the Carlton green yesterday. Henderson (Reruueia) gaining an easy win over Bremner (West End) in tho final by 23 points to 13. Tho weather was fino alid the green keen, hut a strong, gusty wind made conditions trying for tho competitors, who found it very difficult to gaugo tho requisite weight and green. There was a large attendance of spectators to witnena tho final. Tho West End pluyer began well in the final and on the first three heads run lip five points, while liia opponent failed to store. Toor drawing- by Bremner on the fourth, however, allowed Henderson to secure two from tho head.

Tho fifth bend was ;i short one and tho players, troubled by tho wind, found difficulty in finding the kitty. Bremner, particularly, was well away from the jack and on a measuro Hendersot secured two. Bremner lay shot with his first bowl on the next head, but Henderson played a fine bowl, to rest ono up himself. Bremner attempted to kill the head, but failed, tho scores being now level. Henderson was veil up with his first two bowls on tno next, Bremner being very uniortunate not to take the kitty through for two with his second. His bowl just missed the jack. Henderson, playing steadily, added another, tho Wost End player being unable to alter tho position With his last. The scoro was:—Henderson, 8; Bremner, 5. A marked falling-oil' in Bremner's play made tho way easier for the Remuera player, the latter drawing especially well. However, Bremner managed to navo Well on tho next head, which was building up badly for him, by trailing the kitty for a single. Henderson gained another two on the ninth head and on the tenth Bremner lay ono upuntil ho attempted to draw another with his last, misjudging the pare and removing his own bowl to givo Henderson shot. Tho score at this stage was:—Henderson, 11; Bremner, 6. Bremner was still playing poorly, being in most cases either short or over the head. Henderson continued to take advantage of hia opponent's lapse and at the completion of the 15th head led by 20 points to 7. It came as a relief after a series of loose heads to witness the 16th, when the first five bowla were within 18 inches of the jack. Close play resulted i:i Henderßon gaining a single. With the score 23 —7 on the 18th head, Bremner needed the maximum points on all the remaining heads to level the score. He took the whole four points from the 18th, but could only secure two from the next head, the game ending at this stage with tho scoreHenderson, 23; Bremner,

13. , The matches in the sixth round were fairly evenly contested. Thomson was the first to start in the match with Henderson, but about half-way through the latter secured a run of 2, 1 and 3, which put him slightly ahead. Shortly afterward the critical stage of the contest was reached when Thomson, who was lying shot and a measure for the second, spoiled his chances in trying to get another counter. He came up narrow and pushed two of his opponent's bowls into count. In strong contrast to yesterday's play Thomson was missing his drives. In the case of the Aidley-Bainbridge game the latter was driving exceedingly well and forced Audley to play defensively. The latter missed his drives and allowed Bainbridge to win comfortably. Kerr was down considerably in the match with Bremner When the half-way mark had been reached, but worked up gradually until he was four down with one head to go. On the final head Bremner was lying two when Kerr burned the head. Kerr had the necessary four for a draw on the replay but Bremner was fortunate to gain third shot and win the contest by two points. Both the semi-final games were one-sided, easy victories being secured by Bremner and Henderson over Thomson and Bainbridge respectively. Following were the results of yesterday's play : Sixth Round.—Bainbridge (Mount Eden). 22, v. Audley (Takapuna), 15; Bremner (West End), 17, v. Kerr (Onehunga), 15; Henderson (Remuera), 17, v.
