ST. PATRICK'S SPORTS.

GATHERING OF CHILDREN.

KEEN ENTHUSIASM SHOWN.

MASSED DRILL DISPLAY. More thsi'n 2000 children from Roman Catholic schools, colleges and orphanages within a wide radius of Auckland enjoyed themselves at the St, Patrick's sports car-, nival, held under ideal weather conditions in the Domain yesterday. There was a large attendance of parents and friends. Entries were better than, ever before. Certificates of merit were substituted for prizes, and as a result of this self-sacrifice on the part of the children a considerable sum will be devoted .to assistance in the earthquake areas, supplementing the amount received at the St. Patrick's "Day concert.

Ono of the most spectacular events of the afternoon was the massed display of physical" drill by 600 boys from the Sacred Heart College and the Vermont Street school. The exercises wore carried out with p. precision that drew whole-hearted applause from the spectators. ''Thq over-head-ball game attracted largo entries and tho finals provided very close finishes. The steeplechase, of ono mile and a-half, run from Manukau lload, along the Domain Drive and finishing (with one round of the track, resulted in a close finish bo tween Duflin and Rack, who had kept close together over much of tho distance.
