LOCAL BODIES' FINANCE.
NEED TO REDUCE COSTS.
CONFERENCE TO BE HELD.

TE KT7ITI, Saturday.
The Waitomo County Council yesterday considered the following resolutions passed by the executive of the New Zealand Fanners' Union:—
(1) That this executive deems it essential that costs generally and universally be considerably reduced, and that local bodies in the Waikato district levying upon rural taxpayers bo requested to take what steps, if any, tbuy may be contemplating or taking to ensure a reduction in the estimates of expenditure for the' coming financial year. (2) That the Waikato, Piako, Raglan, Matamata and Waitomo Councils and tlfie Waikato Hospital Board, be invitud to meet in conference with representatives of the Waikato sub-provincial district of the New Zealand Farmers' Union at an early date, to discuss ways Mid means of giving effect to the foregoing resolution.
The council was asked to have representatives at the conference. It decided to be represented at the proposed conference, its delegates fceing requested to give support to straight-out derating*
