CREDIT BY FRAUD.
YOUNG MEN OBTAIN MEAL.
SENTENCE OF IMPRISONMENT.

PUKEKOHE, Saturday. Throe men vero before Messrs. F. Perkins and D. McO. Armstrong, J.P.'s, in tho Pukekohe Police Court to-day clmrgerl with obtaining credit by fraud. In the ease of one, an elderly man, who was described as a first offender of previous good character, and whose name was suppressed, it was stated that late last evening ho hired a taxi to take him from Ptikekoho to the farm on which ho was employed. At the end of the trip he refused to pay the fare, JBs, maintaining that ho had already paid it. The police were informed and Constable O'Donnell made a trip out to the farm and arrested him, another 18s taxi hire being thus incurred. Defendant admitted he made a mistake in thinking ho had paid the fare. lie was convicted and discharged on condition flint, ho paid the total of £1 16s incurred in car hire by himself and the constable.
The other two men charged wore Cecil Webster, aged 21 years, and Ronald Maurice do Kidder, aged 19 years. They pleaded guilty to having a meal in a restaurant at Pukekohe yesterday and leaving without paying for it. Sergeant Cowan stated that they slipped out when the proprietor was not looking. They wero arrested later by Constable O'Donnell, when it was found that while do Ridder had no money Webster had £1 6s 6d.
Both defendants were sentenced to seven days' imprisonment.
