TAKAPUNA DRAINAGE.
CRITICISM BY COUNCILLOR.
MAYOR TO ISSUE STATEMENT. Tho, drainage system in the bovough was again discussed at a meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council last evening. Mr. J. Guiniven said that sevoral residents had expressed the opinion that some public statement should be issued regarding tho sudden abandonment of tho scheme for the erection of a sewage chute direct into the sewer at a point.in Milford, and the acquisition of certain property in tho Waitemata County for sewage purposes. Tho sanitary system in the borough was most unsatisfactory, he said, and it was desirable that an outside engineer should be engaged to report.
Mr. Guiniven added that lie had received a letter from the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, Minister of Health, suggesting that the Milford scheme had been abandoned by the council because an independent engineer had reported the storage tunnel to be inadequate to carry the extra sewage. The Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson, said lie did not consider the matter one for discussion in open council. However, ho intended to make a complete report on the question before relinquishing office.
