WAIKATO COUNTY ROADS.
PROGRESS OF TAR-SEALING. NEW RIVER BRIDGE SOUGHT. [FROIt OUR OWN COimESPONBENT.} HAMILTON, Tuesday. A recommendation that the Main Highways Board bo asked to undertstko the construction of a new bridge over the Mangawara River on tho Great South Road at Taupiri as soon as possible was made in a report presented by the enginecr, Mr. A. A. Woodward, at a meeting of the Waiknto County Council in Hamilton to-day, and adopted by the council. The chairman, Mr. T. Hinton, presided.
The report stated that' since the last meeting of the council a further close inspection of the bridge had been made and it was found that the structure was in a much woi'se 'condition than was pveviously thought.' It would take at least 18 months before a new; briclge could be opened for traffic, and the present one would not last much longer than two years,unless a considerable sum was spout on it.
Reporting on the condition of. roads in the county, Mr, Woodward slated the work of reconstruction; arid bituminous surfacing of the two lengths of the Great South Road, between ■ Ohinewai arid Tau-. piri, wa3 hearing completion. " Tha bitu : minous surfacing of the Hamilton-Rotorua main highway, from Millar's Corner to. Poplar Hill, was now being completed.
