TROTTING NOTES.
RANGIHOU SHOWS FORM.
PRACTICALLY .A GIFT HORSE. PROSPECTS IN NEAR FUTURE. Rangihou, who ran third on two occasions at Hutt Park on Saturday for the Ashhurst owner-trainer, H. Garnelt, formerly raced in tho livery of Mr. J. H. Lloyd, of Hawke's Bay. Rangihou is one of Huia Dillon's progeny, a horse bred by Mr. E. E. Lelievre at Akaroa, while his dam, Cinderette, was a well-known Lloyd representative. Last season Rangihou promised to reach a good standard, but ho proved a difficult horse to train. At the Hastings March mooting he won tho Novice event off-a 3.42 mark in tho smart time of 3.29 2-5, but at Wanganui shortly afterwards he failed to show anything like his best form. In tho Stratford Handicap at Hawera ho put up another attractive performance, but struck a hot one in Harold Logan, and although he registered 3.29 could only finish second.
Subsequent failures of Rangihou on the Tarannki circuit aud successes of Capilano and Manco found Mr. Lloyd with three representatives in practically the same class and Rangihou was put on the market. No sale resulted and finally the owner handed tho horse to H. Garnett, with tho proviso that if ho succeeded in winning a race ho could make a modest payment for the pacer. Garnett has persevered with Rangihou, and, judging by his display at Hutt Park, the horse is making a return to form. With tho Manawatu, Hawera and Taranaki meetings approaching, Rangihou should prove a good proposition for Garnett.
