EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD,
The following are extracts from ths New Zealand Herald of March li; 1881
The City Council at its meeting yesterday decided that the following conditions should be offered to the promoter} of tramway services in Auckland:—(l) That) the promoter shall obtain the consenti of the Governor and of the local bodies in the suburbs. (2) That the promoter shall deposit £IOO as a surety for bonafides, and into a bond of £252 to sign the agreement. (3) That the work shall bo begun within four months, and completed within 16 months from the signing of the contract. (4) That the concession to the promoter of 14 yeais be granted, and. that the council shall have the option of purchase, at the end of the term, taking the rails and plant at. a valuation. (5) That the rails sha'.l be not less than a 3ft. 6in. gauge and shall bo laid at the level of the roadway, the space between the rails and two feet- on trie outside to be kept by the promoter in good repair. (6) The council to have tha option of determining whether the lina shall be. double or single. (7) Thc.fc all repairs shall be made at night, so as not to impede ordinary traffic. (8) Trains to run at intervals of 15 minutes from the various termini between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and of 30 minutes between 6 p.m.' and 9 p.m. (9) The maximum speeo to be ten miles an hour and the minimum three miles, the promoters to take all risks. (10) The Mayor to have power to determine the concession for any default on the part of the promoters, or any breach of regulations. (11) The promoter to give security of £IOOO for the completion of contract and to be liable to a penalty of £3O a week for delay. It was resolved to advertise, the conditions in tha newspapers of the colony, Sydney, Mel* bourne and San Francisco.
