SYDNEY'S GREAT BRIDGE.
AF'PROACHING COMPLETION*
IN FULL USE BY CHRISTMAS.
l't is probable that by Christmas there will be a full stream of traffic across 'the Syd:iey Harbour Bridge. It is already] possible to walk across the bridge, though' the decking is not quite complete. " A' suggestion that has been repeated several times is that pending the opening of the bridge the people should be invited to enjoy the experience of crossing the water from Milson's Point, to Dawes Point at a giddy elevation and should pay for the pleasure.
The bridge at the highest part of the arch is about 400 ft. above the water, but) the deck is 100 ft. or more lower, for it is suspended from the arch by enormous hangers. Saturday afternoon"and all day, Sunday would afford opportunities to inspect the bridge when the workmen would not be hindered. It is believed that hundreds of pounds a week could be raised for charities. The deckers are- not the only people on the bridge during working hours. Painters are there, and they will be there always, as in the cas<» of other great bridges of the world the work; of painting will never end.
