GENERAL YOUNG'S SUCCESSOR
BRIGADIER SINCLAIR-BURGESS. NOTED MILITARY SERVICE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Minister of Defence, Hon. J. G. Cobbe, announces the appointment of Brigadier W. L. H. Sinclair-Burgess as Chief of the' General Staff, to succeed Major-General R. Young, as general officer commanding \the New Zealand l'orces.
Brigadier Sinclair-Burgess was born in England in 1880, and is tiie son of the late Rev. George Burgess, of Papakura. He was educated :in England and served in the Great; Wa:r from 1914 to 1919. Ho was created a Commander of the Bath and a Commander of St. Michael and St. George, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order and tioned in despatches six times. In addition he was made an officer of the Legion of Honour and awarded the American Distinguished Service Medal. In 1924 he was appointed Chief of the New Zealand General Staff and Director of Military Training and Intelligence. In 1921 he married Flora M. Pembroke, daughter of Mrs. 0. King, of Nelson.
