YESTERDAY'S WEATHER.

CONDITIONS IN THE SOUTH.: Auckland.—After the torrential downpour of rain on Wednesday the weather in Auckland reverted to more summery conditions yesterday, a dull, overcast morning giving way to an afternoon of bright sunshine tempered by a light wind from the south. After falling to 29.75 in, at 2 a.m. yesterday the barometer rose steadily all day until at midnight it registered 30.00 in.

Wellington.—For Wellington's annual holiday on Anniversary Day the weather yesterday was variable, but on the whole pleasant. The morning was sunny, still and warm, but early in the afternoon a light, mild southerly sprang up, ominous clouds formed, and there was a light s shower immediately after. However, the sky cleared and the remainder of the day was almost as pleasant as the morning.

Christchurch.—Sunshine and cloud alternated at Christchurch yesterday, and there were two showers in the morning.' The wind blew from tho south-west and the maximum temperature was 65 degrees, Tho barometer showed a rising tendency, tho reading last evening being 29.77 in. Dunedin.—Following heavy rain on Wednesday night, the weather was dull and overcast at Dunedin yesterday morning, but the sun broke cover before mid' day and the afternoon was fine and pleasant. Tho wind was light from the southwest. Tho maximum temperature was 73 degrees and the barometer fell during the day, but later started to rise, the reading last evening being 29.70 m,
