CHIMING CLOCK STOPPED.

CAMBRIDGE POST OFFICE. DANGER FROM VIBRATION. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CAMBRIDGE, Thursday. After this week the chimes of the post office clock will be heard no more, unless serious defects which have developed in tho clock are repaired. For some years past cracks had appeared in the joints of poitions of the tower. These appear to have developed lately, and to-day it was considered that the vibration from the chiming clock was such as to render the tower unsafe.

The clock is maintained by the Borough Council and the building is, of course, the property of the department. It has requested tho council to stop the clock from chiming immediately.
