THE HOWICK ROAD.

OPENING TO-MORROW.

CELEBRATIONS ARRANGED.

Extensive arrangements havo been made for the conclusion of 'tho celebrations in connection with the opening of tho new concrete highway to Howick to-morrow afternoon. During the afternoon tho Howick water supply from Pigeon Mountain, near Buckland's Beach, will bo turned on.

A procession will leavo tho Howick Town Board's boundary at two o'clock, and will represent the development of transport methods sinco the pioneering days of Howick. Tho procession will include bullock-waggons, pack-horses, buggies, early motor-cars and buses. These will bS followed by the latest means of transport, modern motor-cars and trucks. A ribbon stretched across the road will be cut by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, who will formally declare tho road open. Tho ends of the ribbon will be held by two of the oldest residents of the district, Mrs. White, aged 94, and Mr. Andrews, aged 90. Following tho ceremony, tho wator supply will be turned on by the young daughter of the chairman of the celebrations committee, Mr. J. Crawford. Addresses will bo given by tho Minister, local members of Parliament, and prominent officials of the Howick district, and the-guests will later bo entertained to afternoon tea at the local hall.

THE QUEEN CARNIVAL. CORONATION CEREMONY. The coronation of Miss Mavis White as the queen for tho carnival celebrations at Howick to-morrow was held in the Howick public hall last evening beforo a large number of residents. In performing the ceremony, Mr. G. Bell, chairman of the Town Board, commented on tho position of honour which Miss White occupied. Miss White, in her reply, thanked tho members of the football club, whose nominee she was, for their efforts on her behalf.
