HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. INTERMITTENT RAIN. The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— Tropical influences of a pronounced nature, in conjunction with the cyclone centred northward of the Dominion, are expected to result iti a rainstorm of great intensity over tho northern portion of the Auckland Peninsula. Torrential rains are indicated in the north, the rain area gradually moving southward down tho east coast, and spreading over most of the North Island. A scattered rainfall is likely in southern districts. Localised floodings are expected in many parts of tho Auckland Province. Thunderstorms are indicated in east, coast districts. Warm and humid conditions. Northerly to north-easterly winds, moderate to strong, freshening. Fairly rough seas southward from Capo Egmont. Local outlook: Intermittent heavy rain. Thunder probable. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A rather intense depression is advancing on to New Zealand from the Tasman Sea. Indications are for moderate to strong northerly winds, of gale force at places south *>f New Plymouth and Castlepoint. Seas rough south of Cape Egmont and in Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere moderate. Strong northerly winds to gales in the eastern'' Tasrnan Sea, with rough seas. Weathev still mainly fair on the east coast; elsewhere cloudy and unsettled, with rain at many places and some heavy falls in Wcstland. Later conditions becoming more generally unsettled.
