AUCKLAND CENTRE TOURNEY. FINAL INTERRUPTED BY RAIN. WHITTLE LEADS ON I4TH HEAD. Tho final of the annual full-rink Christmas tourney, conducted by tho Auckland Bowling Centre, was commenced at tho Auckland green yesterday morning, t larke (Carlton) and Whittle (Grey Lynn) being tho contestants 'iho weather was threatening at the start and, after a few light shoivcrs had interfered with play, heavy rain sot in at the completion of tho 14th head, when the scores were —l2 in Whittle's iavour and further plav was impossible. Tho remaining seven heads will bo decided at the Auckland green this morning at 30 o'clock. Tho green was slightly heavy at the commencement and gradually became worse up to the time when play had to be stopped, with the result that several of tho players found it hard to gaugo tho correct weight needed. NOTES ON THE PLAY. The teams were as follows: Grey Lynn.—F. Baildon, W. Mincham, W. Liversidge, TI. Whittle. Carlton.—J. Bird, W. Bates, J. Kilgour, It. C. Clarke. Tho Grey Lynn rink started well and by fine team-work established an early lead. Liversidge, especially, was giving his skip, Whittle, considerable assistance. Whittle himself was also playing right up to scratch with the result that at tho seventh head ho had an advantage of six points, the score being 12—6 in his favour. Clarke persevered, however, and by practically individual play succeeded in greatly reducing his opponent's lead. The first head saw Clarke two to tho good when, the skips changed over and lie immediately drew a third, Whittle resting with his first to leave Clarke still three up. Clarke's second was short, however, and with his last bowl, Whittle drew the absolute.

Tho second head was evenly contested and in the third, Bird started off, drawing finely, while Bates added another. Liversidge followed with a shot howl, however, and when Clarke attempted to spoil tho head he touched the kitty and left Whittle 3 up. The score at this stage was s—l in Whittle's favour. The Grey Lynn team was lying two tip when the skips changed over on the fourth, hut Clarke killed the head. The replay saw Carlton reverse the position and Clarke added another, making Carlton three up. Whittle removed one with his last. Scores: Whittle, 5; Clarke, 3. Bird was well in with his two shots on the next, head, hut Mincham drew shot with a nicelv-weighted howl. Liversidge added a, couple and Grey Lynn stood three tip. The skips failed to alter the position. Scores: Whittle, 8; Clarke, 5.

Bates with his first shot gave Carlton an advantage of one on the. succeeding head, hut "Whittle turned the head in his favour. Clarke was not daunted, however, and with his last howl drew shot to obtain three from the head. Srnrrs : Whittle, 8; Clarke, 6. Mincham drew shot on the seventh and Liversidge added another. Kilgour touched kitty with a fast one, hut Grey Lynn wus left with two up at the change. Clarke made a good effort with his first, hut fell slightly short and Whittle drew shot- to make himself three up. Whittle followed with another beau-tifully-judged bowl and gained four from tho head. Scores: Whittle, 12; Clarke, 6. Clarke held his opponent well on the four next heads and by judicious drawing gained on each, reducing Whittle's lead to 12—11. Whittle gained two more on the two succeeding heads, but on tho 14th Clarke recovered making the scores when rain interrupted pLxy: Whittle, 14; Clarke, 12. REMUERA TOURNAMENT.
