MODERN CRIMINALS.

REAL GENIUS LACKING,

MR. EDGAR WALLACE'S VIEW.

BERLIN. Dec. 23. Mr. Edgar Wallace, the English novelist, who is visiting Germany, declared that there were no master criminals nowadays.

"If I were not a writer I could be the most capable criminal and easily earn money by swindling. I might turn to crime for the sake of sensation if only England possessed an inspired detective."

Mr. Wallace added, however, thatwriting stories of crime was "more moral and more profitable."
