DERBY DAY TO-MORROW.

VERY GOOD ACCEPTANCES.

CHANCES OF GAY CREST,

Quality is well represented in the list of acceptances for the third day of the Auckland Racing Club's Summer Meeting at Ellerslie to-morrow and eomc* very interesting racing should eventuate. The leading events are the Great Northern Derby and the Auckland Racing Club Handicap and the Derby is provoking considerable interest. Before the meeting opened the classic whs considered to be at the mercy of Cylinder, but in view of his failure in the King's Plate and Karapoli's brilliant form the situation is now very interesting.

This event is confined to apprentice riders. Form points to Clopton possessing excellent prospects, while Arrowzone. Stonehenge, Loving Cup and Brampton may be the likeliest of the others. The favourites may be CLOPTON. STONE B EN GK. ARROWZONE.

12.32—MIDSUMMER HANDICAP, Of £400; two-year-olds; 6 fur.

Aspian's third in the Great Northern Foal Stakes was a good effort and, as he has since sprinted well, he should prove very dangerous. Chief Cook is a solid youngster likely to go well and Royal Babv is a newcomer with creditable form to recommend her. The best of the others may by Chief Jewel and Oratorian, the latter being a likely improver. Investors may show a preference for ASPIAN. CHIEF COOK. ORATORIAN.

This is a good field and a fine contest should eventuate. Auckland Cup form suggests Concentrate, who galloped well on the tan yesterday, as the best oI the topweights, although at a difference of lllb. he will find In the Shade a difficult horse to beat. Star Stranger will need to improve upon his Cup running to be in the pic' jre and he does not appeal as much as horses like Gay Crest. Motere and Count Palatine, who are all in good form. Gay Crest and Count Palatine both went well in a six-furlongs gallop yesterday, especially Gay Crest, who appears to b§ at the top of his form and should take a deal of beating. After the two races he has had Corinax may be capable of a showing, and likely horses anions the lightweights are Standfast, Spearmis.s and My Own. Wagering on the race may be spirited and popular fancies may be GAY CREST. IN THE SHADE. CONCENTRATE.

As a result of Karapoti's brilliant form in the King's Plato and Cylinder's failure, this event now looks like being more interesting than was expected a week ago. Karapoti has not been specially trained to run a distance, as has Cylinder, and this may tell against him. However, his brilliancy will take him a long way and, if he settles down without pulling too much in the early stages, ho should be very difficult to beat. Pew of the others make any particular appeal, although Gustavo's Summer Cup run makes hir.a a possibility. Sargon is also good enough to be worthy of consideration, but ho has been troubled with soreness and the firm track may find him out. Of the others Praise may be as likely as any. The popular selections may comprise KARAPOTI. CYLINDER. GUSTAVO. 3.37—COUNTY HANDICAP,

This event bears a very open aspect and the size of the field will make post positions an important factor. The top-weights, Havaspot. True Shaft and Tetrarchate, should all possess chances, but at the difference in weights they are likely to receive strong opposition from Perennis, Pakitere, Foot Rule, Leasehold and Appledore. It should be a good betting race, and the favourites may include PAKITERE. FOOT RULE. HAVASPOT.

Luck in the draw for post positions will be an important factor in this event. Pnganelli, Lady Quex; Leitrim and Great Star are all in form and tmißt, therefore, be respected, while Bayacre, Awaken, Autopay and Courtesy are all smart enough to seriously trouble the top-weights. Some who may be in demand are BAYACRE. GR'EAT STAR. LADY QUEX.

The distance should suit Refresher, who ran a good second to Silvermine on Monday, and he should show up prominently. Maori Boy and Prince Val should also go well, and light-weights with chances are Tenakoe, Royal Tea, Llanore. Sir Mond and Cynthia N. The main fancies may be REFRESHER. PRINCE VAL. TENAKOE.
