HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED.

The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:—A cyclone i 3 centred on the south-west Tasman Sea, and extends over a wide area, its influence reaching to New Zealand. Ex pcct fair to cloudy weather, overcast at times, with showers in the coastal districts, and rain gradually becoming general. Temperatures will bo warm, and atmospheres oppressively humid, particularly in East Const areas, where temperatures are likely to bo exceptionally high. .Variable and moderate breezes, northerly to northeasterly winds, moderate to Btrong, increasing strong to galo, especially in the north. Seas rough and increasing on tho cast const. Local outlook: Cloudy and unsettled, with rain following.

GOVERNMENT REPORT,

The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —Barometers are fairly high and uniform over tho Dominion and a small anti-cyclone is now moving on to tho southern portion. Tho cyclone on the north-west Tasman Sea is located in practically the same position as it was yesterday. Indications aro for south to south-east winds, moderate generally but fresh to strong at times on the east coast south of Castlepoint, changing to northerlies soon in the North Island. Seas rather rough on tho east coast south from Cook Strait, elsewhere smooth to moderate. Freshening northeast winds with rather rough seas in tho eastern Tasman Sea. Weather still mostly cloudy and misty with light rain nt a few scattered places, moro especially in tho eastern districts and in the far north and south. Tomperatures cool at first in the South Island, but rising again generally.
